AGILITY CLASSES

Have you watched dogs flying over jumps and weaving through poles on TV and thought, "that looks like fun?"  

You’re right, it is.

Agility is a fast-paced, exciting sport where you and your dog learn to work as a team, navigating obstacles together with speed, focus, and a whole lot of joy. Whether you’re dreaming of competition or just looking for a fun new way to connect with your dog, agility at the Olean Kennel Club is the perfect place to start.

We offer a variety of classes to suit your level of experience. Scroll down to see the different agility classes we offer and see if we currently have any open for registration. 

What You’ll Learn

Our instructors will guide you in safely introducing your dog to agility equipment and teaching them how to confidently navigate a course by your side. From first steps to full sequences, you’ll build skills, communication, and connection. And if competition is on your radar, we’ll help you get there too!

What to Bring

  • High-value treats (soft and irresistible!)
  • A flat buckle collar (no tags dangling)
  • 4 or 6 foot leash
  • Water and a bowl
  • A crate bed and/or cover (we have crates available, but you can bring your own if you'd like) 
  • Clean running shoes
  • A positive, patient mindset — this is all about building trust and having fun together

Skills You’ll Build

Jumps, tunnels, A-frame, dog walk, teeter, pause table, weave poles—and the handling skills to tie it all together into a smooth, confident run.

OUR AGILITY CLASSES


Intro to Agility

You and your dog can tackle anything as a team! This class is the perfect starting point for dogs and handlers new to agility. We focus on safety, confidence, and reward-based learning while introducing obstacles, handling basics, and foundational skills. By the end, you’ll be ready to move on to more advanced coursework with a strong, confident start.

Prerequisites:

  • Dogs must be at least 6 months old
  • Basic manners required (sit, down, stay, come, loose-leash walking)
  • Completion of a basic obedience class or evaluation with instructor


Novice Agility

Now the fun really starts to come together! Building on your foundation, this class helps teams gain confidence navigating simple courses and connecting multiple obstacles. Whether your goal is to compete or just enjoy the sport, you’ll refine your handling skills and watch your dog’s confidence grow with every run.

Prerequisites:

  • Dogs must be at least 8 months old
  • Completion of Intro to Agility (or equivalent experience)


Advanced Agility

Hooked on agility? You’re in the right place. This class is designed for teams ready to take things to the next level—whether that’s entering trials or mastering more complex sequences. You’ll work on advanced handling, speed, distance, and strategy while continuing to strengthen your teamwork and flow on course.

Prerequisites:

  • Dogs must be at least 1 year old
  • Intermediate agility skills (evaluation required)
  • Ongoing class with drop-ins available (with instructor approval)
